The series “A Greater Awareness of Awareness” explores themes of surveillance and its growing presence in our daily lives. Using the visual language of spreadsheets, local maps, and Google Street View information, the series reminds the viewer how accessible surveillance, information-gathering, and information-curating technologies have become to the average person. While Google Street View has visited each area multiple times, only one time was chosen for each piece, prompting the viewer to ask why this image was chosen and what purpose it serves. In each piece, the Bennington Monument has been replaced by the Washington Monument, a reminder of the current administration’s aims to collect as much data as possible, curate it, and use it for their benefit.
